If you want to make money online, there are only two major ways to do it: one is to monetize your site and the other is to become an affiliate and market a vendor’s products using your site. Let’s take a closer look at these two methods to see how they can be accomplished.

Monetizing Your Site

This method is effective only if you have a site that already has a certain number of visitors who visit it regularly. To monetize your site, you can register for a Google AdWords account. AdWords will place text ads on your site based on its niche. To illustrate, let’s say your blog is about health and fitness, AdWords can place ads offering supplements or fitness equipment. When a visitor clicks on the ad and makes a purchase, you are paid a certain amount of money. The more people who buy products through your site, the more money you can make.

If you don’t have a site yet or are just starting one, you will have to build your niche before you can monetize your site. Of course, this can take some time, so you will have to be patient. However, you can help make the process go faster by establishing an online presence on social networking sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn, and then building relationships with leads on these sites that you can direct to your personal website.

The simplest type of website to set up and maintain is a blog, since it is easy to place content on the site. You can start by finding a niche that you feel passionate about and then writing several blog posts on that topic. Make sure that the posts are filled with useful and interesting content and use keywords that can get you indexed on search engines.

If you are building your brand as an expert in a particular niche, you should also write a blog post about yourself with a picture to establish your credibility. And ensure that the blog is regularly updated with fresh content in order to give visitors a reason to keep returning to your site, as well as attracting new leads.

Becoming an Affiliate Marketer

An affiliate marketer sells a third-party vendor’s products and services by using a landing site that has links to the vendor’s site. Signing up is usually free or requires a minimal fee, and you get a commission for every sale made through your site. So your task as an affiliate marketer is to drive traffic to your site and then convince visitors to buy.

One way to generate traffic to your site is to submit articles to article directories, and include a link back to your site in the resource box. If the site allows you to, you can also create a hyperlink using a targeted keyword. If the article is reprinted by another site, they have to maintain the hyperlink. More backlinks will also help raise your rankings on Google search engine results pages.

You can also link your affiliate site to your blog and use blog posts as a way to generate traffic. For example, you can write a post about a problem the vendor’s product can solve, and then include a hyperlink using a keyword to your landing site.
