Presenting the top keyword trends in the Philippines for September 2012… Check it out here!
Gangnam Style. “Gangnam Style” and “Oppa Gangnam Style” enjoyed a 400% increase in searches in September, making them the hottest keywords so far in September. The popularity of Gangnam Style shows that Filipinos know a good trend when they see one.
This catchy Korean pop single has taken the world by storm since it was first released in mid-July, with the music video made to accompany the song enjoying more than 130 million views on YouTube. And though you would think that Gangnam Fever would be abating by now and giving way to the next viral sensation, the single is still actually going strong, holding on to the top spot on the iTunes music-video chart.
The artist behind Gangnam Style is Psy, 34, an unlikely pop star who was virtually unknown outside of his native South Korea until the single exploded. Psy recently appeared on the MTV Video Music Awards, doing the horse-riding dance alongside show host Kevin Hart and drawing the night’s most enthusiastic response from the audience.
Helping to stoke continued interest in the song is the release of a new version of the song known as Oppa is Just My Style, with additional vocals by 4-minute member Hyun-a. The re-recording offers a woman’s perspective on the original Gangnam Style single.
Locally, Gangnam Style has inspired a video led by Eric Tai of the Philippine Volcanoes doing the familiar dance with a number of celebrities, including Tai’s “It’s Showtime” co-hosts Anne Curtis and Jugs Jugeta, ABS-CBN news correspondents Ginger Conejero and Gretchen Fullido, singer-hosts Randy Santiago and Billy Crawford and balladeer Christian Bautista.
IPhone 5. After months of anticipation, Apple finally unveiled its iPhone 5 on September 13. Although a Philippine launch date for the iPhone 5 has yet to be announced, it is clear that local tech heads are keenly interested in this next-gen Smartphone as shown by the 110% increase in searches for the keyword “iPhone 5”.
The new Smartphone offers the one feature that most people said they wanted – increasing the size of the screen to four inches from the 3.5-inch screens on earlier iPhones. To support the larger screen size, Apple increased the screen resolution to 1136 x 640 pixels. The iPhone 5 is also Apple’s thinnest Smartphone, with a width of just 0.3 inches (7.6 mm) and a weight of 3.95 oz, nearly one oz lighter than the iPhone 4S.
In addition, the Smartphone comes with a faster processor, the proprietary A6 chip, which Apple claimed would deliver double the performance of the A5. Despite the upgraded chip, battery life on the iPhone 5 is significantly longer on a full charge than earlier models, with ten hours of surfing using the Wi-Fi module and eight hours with the LTE antenna.
The iPhone 5 also features a front-mounted 720p high definition Face Time camera, with upgrades such as faster shutter speeds and improved low light and image stabilization performance.
The iPhone 5 is scheduled to ship September 21 in the US and Canada, EU countries like the UK, France and Germany, East Asian countries like Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong as well as Australia. It is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models.
